EVENT - RSE The secret world of data
Date & time
Monday, September 4, 2023 - 17:30
Location
The Royal Society of Edinburgh, 22-26 George Street, Edinburgh, EH2 2PQ.
Summary
Data is all around us. So, what is really being done with it? Who can use it and why? And how can it help people?
Have you ever wondered with so much data being collected by supermarkets, online stores, schools, hospitals and local authorities - what is it being used for? Who has access to it and how is it kept safe?
In our event, our researchers will unpack how public sector data is being used securely for research and explore how linking different types of data can provide insights that benefit society.
Interacting with the audience, our researchers Professor Susan McVie, Jan Savinc and Dr Michelle Jamieson will discuss:
- how your public data is always kept safe and secure
- that people’s identities remain anonymous so no-one can be identified
- what linking different datasets together can do, with examples from Covid and end of life care
- how analysing public data can help us to understand the world better and impact policy and public services
We look forward to seeing you there!
