University of Edinburgh

Dr. Eilidh Garrett is an historical demographer and has been a Senior Researcher at SCADR since 1 April 2020. Eilidh has been working with colleagues on the Scottish Historic Population Database (SHPD) and partners in the Study of Health in Port Cities (SHiP) project to create a coding system for causes of death that can be applied across time and space.

She is also part of the team headed by Dr. Alice Reid at the University of Cambridge, working on a project entitled: 'Britain's first demographic transition: an integrated geography'. Details of this project can be found at: https://gtr.ukri.org/projects?ref=ES%2FS016805%2F1. This work builds on a previous project ' An Atlas of Fertility Decline in England and Wales' (https://www.campop.geog.cam.ac.uk/research/projects/victorianfertilitydecline/) which led to the creation of the Populations Past website. Our current work will add details for the Registration Districts of Scotland 1851-1901 to Populations Past.
