Lee is the Co-Director of the Scottish Longitudinal Study Development & Support Unit (SLS-DSU) at the  Longitudinal Studies Centre – Scotland, and part of the Research Institute of Geography and The Lived Environment in the School of GeoSciences, University of Edinburgh. They are co-lead on the Scottish Historic Population Platform (SHiPP), and is part of the Lifelong Health and Wellbeing and Children's Lives and Outcomes research programmes. 

Lee has a background in demography and statistics. Their methodological interests include demographic methods and longitudinal techniques. Lee’s research interests include fertility behaviour and birth parity; inequality, health and mortality; early life and lifecourse outcomes; and historical demography.
